This article has three sections. The first section talks about the challenges in the Indian IT Industry. The second section talks about how can we overcome the issues faced by Indian IT Industry, and finally we
conclude by finding out the reasons behind the downfall in the Indian IT Industry.
Key challenges with Indian IT Industry
One of the key challenges faced by Indian IT Industry is Visa Overhang. With Donald Trump coming in as US President, he has put some stringent rules for H1B Visas due to which a lot of IT companies are facing trouble in sending their employees to the US. Also, the major chunk of work done by Indian IT Industries is low skilled work which includes Coding, backend support, and Testing. This work is going to be automated soon, and as per HfS Research company, India could lose 6.4 lacs low skilled position in IT and BPO Industry to automation. Our Indian IT Companies still follow the old traditional practices due
to which it fails in the Digital Challenge to the other global leaders like Accenture and IBM who accounts for more than 50% of deals in the Digital area. Market leaders in the global IT space today have a strong
consulting arm which accounts for 13 percent of overall IT Services market. However, Indian IT companies have not built a consulting brand for themselves due to which it loses major deals to big
players like Accenture, PwC, BCG, and others. Major players in the global market are upgrading themselves by acquiring more and more companies who work on the cutting edge technologies whereas
Indian companies have excess cash on their balance sheets, but they are not using the same to upgrade their businesses.
Solutions to the major problems of Indian IT Industry
Indian IT companies should change their style of working by adopting cutting edge technologies and should tie up with the best educational institutions in the country to train their employees. With extra cash
in hand, IT companies can plan to acquire some small businesses working in a niche domain. Recently, global players have started hiring students from liberal arts to get a creative edge in the technological
world, and our IT firms can also follow the same suit. IT companies can also target ‘ground level’ projects in digital re-architecting of IT systems, analytics, mobility and cloud computing.
Conclusion
Therefore, we can say that Indian IT companies are losing many jobs, not because of Donald Trump or Automation. Trump and Automation are just one of the factors, and our companies need to change their old traditional practices to the new era of technology to remain competitive in the market.
